Use this Tower Crane Checklist to ensure the necessary safety checks are made before operating a tower crane.

Tower Crane Checklist

General Information

Items to Check - A. Tower Crane Approved For Use.

*1. Tower Crane is approved by MOM.

*2. Lifting gears and appliances in good working condition

B. General Requirements

*1. Lifting hooks provided with safety latch

*2. Load to be lifted within the safe working load

*3. All mounting bolts are in good condition

*4. Hydraulic fluid level is sufficient.

*5. Proper and safe access and egress (with proper foot and hand holds/supports) are provided to the crane operator.

*6. Operator crane cabin is provided with a locking mechanism so as to prevent unauthorised entry.

*7. A safety bar is fitted across the operator's cabin window where there is likelihood of the operator falling through it.

*8. An approved fire extinguisher is provided in the operator cabin.

*9. An Operation and Maintenance log book is available in the operator cabin.

*10. A Manufacturing Operating Manual and Maintenance Manual are made available.

*11. Crane hook is provided with a safety catch to prevent displacement of the sling or load from the hook.

*12. Wire ropes are well lubricated and that there are no visible defects such as broken wire, kinks, excess wear, crushing etc…

C. Other Visual Checks

*1. A load capacity chart is displayed in the operator cabin.

*2. Lifting gear color code system is implemented

*3. Barriers placed adjacent to the area

*4. The Tower Crane is provided with markings of the safe working load, tower crane serial number and LM number.
